Former President of the Rockland County Bar Association
New York debt collection lawyer, Alden was born in Queens, New York, and graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1976. He went on to attend the University of Albany, graduating in 1980 with a BA in Economics and Political Science. He graduated from Pace University School of Law in 1983 with a Juris Doctor Degree.
His job experience includes working as a full-time associate attorney in a small general practice law firm, Costa & McKay, Esqs. from 1983-1990. In 1990, Alden started his own law firm, the Law Offices of Alden B. Smith. He has been a sole practitioner from 1990 to present, with offices in New City, New York. In addition, he was a part-time court attorney at the Rockland County Family Court. He has worked for several Family Court Judges, including Hon. Bernard E. Stanger, Hon. Fred L. Shapiro, Hon. Margaret Garvey and Hon. William P. Warren. His job duties included research, conferences, review of motion papers submitted to the Court, and advising the Judge on general legal questions relating to issues regarding support, neglect and abuse, custody, juvenile delinquency, et cetera.

Since 1983, Alden has been a member of both the New York State and the Rockland County Bar Associations, as well as having served as the President of the Rockland County Bar Association during the 2004-2005 year term. Since 2002, he has served as the Chairperson of the Condominium and Cooperative Committee of the Rockland Bar Association. From 2014 to present, he has served as the Co-Chairperson of the Creditor's Rights, Debt Collection & Bankruptcy Committee of the Rockland County Bar Association. From 1991-2006, Alden was a member of the Board of Directors of the Rockland County Bar Association. From 1992-1993, he was a member of the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association. He was also Chairperson of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Rockland Bar Association from 1989-2002. Alden was past President of the Rockland County Bar Association, as well (from July 2004 to July 2005). Mr. Smith is also the past President of the New City Rotary Club (from July 2019 to July 2020).; and Alden is also now a Co-Chairperson of the Rockland County Bar Association Continuing Education Committee.
